Save Your Business Face

What does your social media say about you? Is your business fading into the oversaturation of today’s media jungle or is it cutting through the weeds to shine through? Truth is, social media is the portal into your company from an outsider’s perspective. It should represent the essence of your business, even before the handshake.

Let’s look at it like this– someone signs up for Tinder or eharmony, all the other person has to go off of is a first impression. This will determine if they will take interest and whether or not they will pursue a meetup. Are their preconceptions accurate? Well, they can be if the profile was set up honestly and properly.

Social media is an effective tool that can be accessed no matter where you are or how much money you have. By utilizing social media effectively, your company can reap many benefits such as increased traffic, brand loyalty and a new level of interaction.

Let’s talk about 6 things you can start doing today to save your company’s face:

Be relevant
Post with purpose. Potential influencers and like-minded business will follow you for sharing similar interests, values and clients will take interest based on their needs. Be honest and promote your services and other aspects relevant to your field.
Stick to a schedule
Whether you are posting featured products of the month, “Monday Motivationals”, sharing sales graphics, be consistent and clear so that your following will know what to expect and are more likely to keep up with you. Believe it or not, there is a science to posting. Studies vary for different platforms, so look to see when the highest engagement rates are. Many charts will show that the most effective times to post are in the morning while people need an energy boost during their commutes, and late afternoons while they are settled at home. Do some quick research, set up a schedule and stick to it.
Share work culture
People that support and invest in our businesses want to know that we are human too. Let the world in to have a peek of behind-the-scenes at your business. If you get to travel for business trips, document them! Celebrate Fiesta Fridays, share works in progress. Your followers will appreciate seeing the real you.
Keep it professional
Take advantage of the social powerhouses that professionals are using today. Snapchat, Tumblr and Craigslist aren’t really going to benefit your company. Utilize platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, or even portfolio sharing sites like Behance. As of the second quarter of 2015, Facebook had 1.49 billion monthly active users. LinkedIn had 364 million members, and over 300 million people use the photo-sharing app, Instagram every month. That’s a lot of fish in the pond.

Talk to your viewers
Your ultimate goal with social media is to further strengthen your creditability and relationships with your followers. When you reach 1,000 likes on Facebook, send a corresponding thank-you graphic to acknowledge their contribution to that success. Answer questions that people leave in comment sections and when you can, invite them in. This is a great way to see customer insights. When customers want to brag about how amazing your product or service is, where do they go? Straight to social media. You have the opportunity to gain incredibly valuable information based on how they interact online.
Keep brand consistency
You say that you are a globally renowned company or the top business of your specialty in the area, but the last update you gave your viewers was February of last year. Yikes! Your social media outlets are your potential client’s first impression of the company. Unfortunately, not enough companies utilize the free resources available to them. You don’t want to come across as old and outdated or a company of dull personality, when in fact your business was just recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as one of the top businesses in the east coast. All your platforms should be up-to-date, with cohesive graphics, color, and overall aesthetic. Each outlet is an extension of your business. Look put together and hit all the sixes!

You can start saving your business face today by introducing (or reintroducing) some of these actions into your daily routines. There is never a better time to start than now. Your business will gain following from people you've never met, partnerships you'd never think of seeking and giving you access to a digital realm of the world you never knew exists.
